La Sportiva Cobra Climbing Shoe
The La Sportiva Cobra climbing shoe is a highly sensitive downturned slipper designed for gym and bouldering performance with the comfort of an unlined shoe. Looking at the Cobra, it's a really good value climbing shoe with no unnecessary technical features and just the fundamentalist design. A great shoe for gym boulderers in need of a highly flexible and soft shoe that isn't too uncomfortable or painful.
The Cobra uses the softer Vibram XS Grip 2 compound designed for maximum friction, and the sole is only 3.5mm thick. This high level of grip and sensitivity will perform extremely well on steep and overhanging routes with microholds, and the absence of laces and technical features should make the shoe incredibly supple. Although, this shoe is still meant to be really comfortable. One reviewer said that he wore it whilst multipitch climbing!
Being a slipper, the Cobra should be fitted on the snug side. But bear in mind that the unlined suede leather will stretch up to a full size! So remember to size appropriately, and don't be worried by the break-in period. It will be worth it!

There are my 2nd pair of climbing shoes. My first, i didnt know what i needed and sized my shoes too big. I got these, and at first they were too small. EpicTV customer service is epic as well, as getting shipping back across the globe and getting a bigger pair wasnt a hassle. Im a 42.5 in street shoes, and the 41.5 Cobras fit me perfect. Not Adam Ondra tight, but my first form fitting shoe. That said, its still super comfterable to wear. I did get a blister in them my first day, but thats more due to climbing 4+ hours straight in new shoes. Definently not a problem any more. Well if your looking for a cozy slip on shoe, theres are great. No foofy frills, just a simple shoe. However i wouldnt really call these downturned. But i love em.
Let me start by saying I love this shoe and the python and size them the same. I'm a big fan of softer shoes in general and these did not disappoint. I got them as a training shoe for a summer and have only been in the gym with them. My only disappointment was in the heel rand. After sessioning one boulder with a heel hook in the gym the heel rand started to peel up on the side. I swear by sportiva but it's still a bit disappointing to have a shoe come apart that quickly.
Bought these for a solid trainer and to preserve my more expensive performance models. These are definitely comfy with the right fit, and I don't find I'm ripping them off in agony after each climb.
The sole is flexible, but after wearing no-edge Geniuses and Skwarmas, something about these doesn't feel as grippy when smearing the wall or flat holds. For training, I'm finding this makes me more aware of foot placement and technique, so perhaps it's a positive.
Only other negative is that the top of the toe is largely unprotected for toe hooks compared to those other models.
Overall I'm happy, that they balance price, comfort and performance, so happy to recommend!
I've used the for a really long time. They have been my go to shoes. I've bouldered in font in them. I've climbed multipitch in the dolomites with them. Very comfortable. But I would say this is a shoe for someone a bit more than a beginner. As they have soft soles they wear out easily. Use them with care, they will last :)
Just bought these shoes, was a bit nervous about the fit not having tried them on, but they fit beautifully! They’re very comfy, give you great grip and are good for edging too. Also the colour is amazing (orange and black)!
